Dr Franz Birkholtz is an orthopedic surgeon with a special interest in trauma and limb reconstruction.
Limb reconstruction involves deformity correction, treatment of non-unions, mal-unions and severe bone infections with specialized techniques often involving special fixation devices such as mono-lateral or circular fixators that are put around the bone.
Dr Birkholtz is considered a world authority in the field of circular fixators and is closely involved in training as well as the development of these instruments.
He studied at the University of Pretoria and currently teaches courses in South Africa and abroad.
He is practicing in Centurion with rooms in Lifestyle Management Park next to Unitas Hospital.

You can request an appointment by filling out the online form.
We will contact you with a confirmed appointment date and time. Please note that due to the patient load, we may not be able to accommodate you at exactly the right time and date you request.
Please be aware that our practice does not see any spinal (back or neck) problems. Your are welcome to contact the office telephonically and we would be happy to give you the details of the spinal surgeons at our hospital.
Please note that first appointments carry a fee of R500-00 payable at first consultation, preferably by credit or debit card. You will be issued with a receipt which can then be submitted to your medical aid for reimbursement. Bring along your medical aid card and ID book / driver's license please.
Please bring all relevant Xrays, sonar examinations and referral letters. You may, however, also be required to go for special examinations again. Please allow yourself enough time for this.
For follow-up appointments, try to collect the Xray forms beforehand so that they can be taken before your appointment time.
Consultation days with the doctor are on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays (reconstruction and external fixator patients). Additional follow-ups can be arranged with the sister on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
